If you have the discipline to learn from others' mistakes then it only makes sense that you'd make an effort to seek out counsel when you’re first starting out at something new or revisiting something after a long break about how to best approach the task at hand.

Business is becoming more and more cut-throat as people clamor to cope with rising costs and personal demands. And while the retirement of baby-boomers will likely result in structurally low unemployment for the near to mid term, the simple fact is the number of jobs diminishes the higher up the ladder you go. I read somewhere once that problems are like monkeys. If you have one on your back it will screech at you, demand attention, and even defecate on you. Until you can get rid of it, your monkey must be fed (your attention), and should you collect too many monkeys you’ll never get anything done for all the care, feeding, and cleaning they will require.

The movie “Thank You for Smoking” contains a great scene in which the lead character played by Aaron Eckhart explains the secret to his success in promoting smoking in the face of overwhelming criticism. He coaches his son that in his line of work the art to winning an argument is not to prove that his point of view is correct, but instead to prove that some aspect of the other party’s view is incorrect.  If this can be achieved then their whole position is put under question and weakened as a result.
